TAST

Thank you for all the lovely comments. 

Our daughter and family have begun the long trip back to Australia, and the house is suddenly quiet, and feeling so empty.  I already miss them tons! 

I'm two weeks behind on TAST, but have managed the beaded hedebo stitch on my Jewel block.

 I've placed it opposite a beaded organza ribbon

I like this stitch, and may do another seam treatment with it, but making a deeper hedebo

frilly pink lace anchored with variegated pink bullions

a different angle

Jewel's block looks like this, so far

I have the knotted loop stitch to add, too

DD has decided she wants this block turned into a pillow, so I may need to add more material, or trim some, depending on the size of pillow I choose.....

still lots more stitching and beads to add

I 've been working on my Redwork Course with StitchMAP, but no work photos to show as yet.

Next week I hope to be caught up on TAST,  have some CQJP 2012 progress to show you, and perhaps some WIPs or painting to share.

AWOL

Sorry I've been quiet this past week: our daughter and family returned last Sunday, so there's been no time for stitching! Lots of time for playing, and cuddling, though.
This is a long holiday weekend in Canada celebrating Thanksgiving! Our son and DDIL will soon arrive to share the festivities. I have so much in my life for which to give thanks!

What's Doin'!

This past week I've been busy enjoying the lovely Autumn colours!
Here's a few shots from the yard:

Inspired by the outdoors, I dressed up the foyer:

As the weather gets cooler, my thoughts turn towards knitting, and so I finished these 4 scarves: 1 for my daughter in a red bamboo yarn that matches Jewel's dress, a frilly pink/burgundy/grey one for my friend, Shirl, and two pink ones for Jewel, knit in soft, suede-like yarn.

On the stitching front, here's my TAST- Knotted Buttonhole Stitch on my Jewel Block:

September's CQJP is complete with

some shiny green ribbon, green drizzles, and a blue-green bead

two rows of green rick-rack couched with green thread

dark green velvet ribbon couched with metallic green thread pistils

 a big green button, green trim, and silver sequins

makes a sparkly green and silver block!

















I've added some more stems and JK cascades to Jewel's block. There's more stitching I want to do on the remaining seams, but I hope to keep the rest quite subtle, since Jewel is the Star!

I like how the cascades point to sweet Jewel.



















At StitchMAP, I've begun a new course: RedWork!  It's fun learning new stuff!
During the last week, DH and I celebrated 39 years of marriage! Wow! ( and, yes, I was a child bride..... teehee teehee!)

Autumn Approaching

Just a few pics around the lovely spot I live, showing the touches of autumn.

My flowering shrubs are turning all shades of golds and burgundys

surprisingly, this clematis has bloomed

remember last week when I showed this tree with a hit of red?
Well,..........

 

 toadstools are popping up all over the forest floor

and growing on stumps

the  beaver pond has some colour, too

pops of chartreuse and orange

I spotted this tree.......the moss covered roots have grown down over a large boulder to reach the richness of the soil below.

leaves are falling, carpeting the forest floor with a riot of colour

this moss seems to grow faster at this time of the year. I wonder if it provides food for the forest creatures over winter?

Rockman, of course, seems impervious to all the changes around him.


I hope you are enjoying the changing seasons. I love the autumn with its crisper, sunny, bug-free days of colour. Do you?

CQJP-and WIP

Jewel Block

lace daisies

 tiny heart buttons and gathered organza ribbon

a nice pink trim

(is this a gimp trim?)

clusters of tatted Josephine knots create 'wisteria' sprays

stems and a leaf using 1 strand variegated rayon thread and 2 strands of green embroidery floss

pink pistils and pink chain

and Jewel is looking so cute!

I plan to add a few more flower clusters, and at least 1 more stem

then perhaps some more seam treatments

I found a hand-written pattern for this lace amongst some tissue stencils I'd purchased at the second hand shop, and wanted to test knit it to see how it looked
anyone recognize the pattern?
I used size 10 thread and a 5mm needle



CQJP

 I've been working on my September CQJP.
This is a nice rayon thread, and you can see the varigation, but the shine doesn't seem to show

white bullions and stem stitch with silver beads

some of those bullions look a wee wonky.....I'll have to try and fix that

and it now looks like this

lots more to do!

TAST-Drizzle Stitch

I had fun with the TAST stitch this week, and created some 'pink coral'. I really like the drizzle!

A Sunday Stroll

Sunday was a beautiful day, but the morning began with a thick mist on the lake

this pic was taken at 7:30 a.m.

a half-hour later

out the door for our stroll, I spied a hit of red

the leaves have begun to fall

huge boulders on the side of the hill

 massive

sunlight and shadow in the trees

a burl

I wonder how this would look as a bowl and what the wood pattern might be

sun streaming through the trees along the driveway

green turning to brown

the ferns are dying

lots of dead-fall in the bush

this fellow's cheeks were full to bursting

he must have been to the bird feeder

another burl, this one on a maple tree

looks rather like a hairy bum

This rock marks the small hill leading to our home

it has waves of pale grey weaving along its surface

 on our return

I love the pattern of leaves against the granite

 turning burgundy

 texture

our heart-nut tree is thriving, now that it's protected from the deer

colour

even the sedum is looking rosy red

I was surprised to find two buds on this clematis!

 diamonds on the water in the bay

I think this close-up would make a neat painting

turtle island in the afternoon, and back home from our stroll
