CQJP 2013
I added a line of 'pearl' beads down the center of the rectangles, and lazy daisies. The center lazy daisies wear a pink bead......
some adorable off-white gimp trim and beads-I love this trim!
a darker piece.... looks like part of an edging.....
and February looked like this....
a short seam with the variegated pink rayon thread......and a reflecting line of chain stitch...
Is it finished?
hmmm, that seam above the dark, lace edging needs something, I think
I had a little tea party and invited a few of my lacy friends
and they enjoyed a little dip........lol
now they're auditioning for a spot on one of my 2013 blocks.....
;-D
The Jewel Block is now transformed into a pillow! Yay! A little seam binding, and lace was added to the block, and then sewn onto a dark pink fabric.
The back has an overlap of fabric to create a pocket for the pillow insert.
The only addition was a 'silver' and pink crystal 'J' on the upper left. It's a pin and can be removed from the pillow and worn as a pin, or as a pendant.
I sure hope Jewel likes her pillow!
Soon, it will be flying to Australia for her to discover once she returns home. Right now she's traveling in Thailand, and will soon be in Malaysia to attend a wedding with her parents. Such a jet-setter, and she's only 16 months old!
Like many people, we were hit by the latest 'blizzard' and had over a foot of snow. There's more in the forecast, with the possibility of freezing rain, so it may take a while to get to town to post Jewel's pillow.
I hope everyone is safe and warm. Today the sun is shining here. I hope you have some sunshine, too.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

Wow, this tea dye is somelthing beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anneliese. I really like the way they turned out. I used different tea bags for the mix: black pekoe, sugar plum herb tea, and gingerbread tea. They not only look good, they smell good, too!..lol..

Lovely work, Suz! The Jewel pillow is so pretty! Bet you wish you were in Malaysia too! Nice and warm. A bit too warm sometimes - we lived there for a while a few years ago. Hope you're staying warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteThat top quilt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteFox : )
Hello Suz, the Pick CQ pillow is so very very lovely made more special by all your special touches. Your Tea dyed laces are all beautiful. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteYou do such lovely stitching, I am afraid my arthritic hands have made my stitching pretty messy but I still enjoy doing it.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful work! And your tea stained lace is wonderful! And your pillow is just gorgeous! What a great finish!
ReplyDeleteOh, so pretty! Everything. I'm going to try that tea dyeing.
ReplyDeleteSuz your finished Jewel pillow is truly a Jewel Heirloom Treasure for generations to come. It is exquisite. How fun to have a "Tea Party" to dye laces. They all look fabulous. Your February block is soft and lovely. I adore the seam treatment with the little pearls adn beads. You certainly have been busy. So glad to hear you are safe from the storm. Warm Sunshine Smiles Dear...
ReplyDeleteThanks Janet. It would be nice to have some warm weather, for sure. C’mon spring! lol
ReplyDeleteI’ve never lived in another country, but, it must be interesting to experience other cultures. I don’t suppose I’ll find out- I’m not a good traveler, I’m afraid. It was quite cold again today so the furnace is working overtime. Hope you’re having a good weekend.
Hugs
Thank you Fox! Hope you’re all settled into your new place.Have a great Sunday!

I love what you are doing with your quilt it is lovely. Those laces are just beautiful you have a wonderful collection.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that Jewel will love her pillow and it will always be one of her treasures from grandma
Great stitching.
Hey Judy, and thanks for the nice comments. I stitched Jewel’s pillow with lots of love.
ReplyDeleteThe laces are ready to add to to my CQJP 2013 blocks, and I’m so pleased with the different shades. Happy Sunday!
Hugs
I’m glad you still enjoy your stitching, Penny, and I hope the arthritis eases a bit. It’s no fun, I know. I’ve been enjoying your walks and photos. That old Arthur guy visits my knee, and makes walking difficult at times, so I do like accompanying you on your walks.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thanks Wendy. I’m very pleased with how the pillow turned out, but I’m a bit sad that it will be travelling to Australia. Maybe I’ll have to make another one for me. Good thing I have another fabric photo of Jewel!
ReplyDeleteHugs
It’s fun to do, Starr, and the different pieces come out in all shades. I wanted to warm up all those cool white laces.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thank you, Sherry! I must admit I’m having fun with the 2013 palette of soft colours. I think it gives me more options for embellishing. I’m going to miss seeing Jewel’s smiling face once the pillow cover is mailed away, but I shall think of her touching the stitches, and running her fingers over the lace and tatting, and smile. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thanks Shirley! I’ve been saving laces for quite a while, and often find crocheted pieces , and sometimes lace bits, in the second hand shop. I snap them up whenever I spot them. I’ve received some lovely bits from friends, too. Once I found a whole roll of cotton lace!
ReplyDeleteJewel will have fun playing with her pillow, and I’ll let her know it was stitched with lots of love!
Hope you’re having some nice weather.
Hugs
The Jewel pillow is so gorgeous Suz! This is going to be a treasure. You have a great lace collection. The butterfly and dragonflies are cute.Your February block is coming along beautifully, hope one of this lace finds a place there:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Anita. I know I’m going to miss seeing my Jewel block, but it’s a great excuse to start another one..., right? I think I’ll have to save the laces for the next blocks-February is a little full, now.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I love your Jewel block, what a family heirloom that could be - but perhaps not, it may be handled to death with love! Tea dyeing is great fun. Your February block is beautiful. I am so glad you have survived the blizzard unscathed. Thanks for the good wishes on my blog. Cheers
ReplyDeletefeb block is looking good, very delicate. Laces have worked a treat with the tea and as for Jewel`s pillow it is a real jewel
ReplyDeleteThank you Robin for your visit and lovely comments. I guess I wouldn’t mind if the pillow was worn out from too much loving. A nice thought. Happy Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thanks Margaret. I am pleased with my progress this month. I think part is being indoors hiding from the cold and snow-have to do something, right? Hope your weekend was filled with stitch fun.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I like your tea party. The February block is coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteThe Jewel cushion is looking fabulous. I'm sure your granddaughter will love it.
Very pretty, all of it. I just tea dyed some lace for my CQ I just finished. It turned out very nice and looks so vintage you'd never know I bought it just a few days ago. Love the colors in both pieces! Beautiful!
ReplyDeletedoesn't tea give a lovely rich color. Lovely little pillow, she'll love it ;)
ReplyDeleteplease stay safe and warm....it will not be a hardship to stay home and work with thee gorgeous pieces....

Beautiful, Suz, both pieces. I really like your CQJP colors this year.
ReplyDeleteThe tea party was fun! I’m sure Jewel will enjoy her pillow-She saw in while I was stitching on it, and loved to touch it then. Hope you have a great week Marjolein.
ReplyDeleteHugs
thanks Emma. I do like the soft warm tones that tea staining gives the cotton. Have a fun, creative week.
ReplyDeleteHugs
It’s not a problem staying home and stitching, Karen. It’s a problem tearing myself away from the stitching to do my ‘chores’! lol
ReplyDeleteHugs
Your pearl seam treatment is lovely (well, they all are, but I like that one especially!).
ReplyDeleteThanks Magpie, I enjoyed trying new combinations. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Your lace collection is just divine, Suz and the way you have dyed them with the different teas has made them look olde worlde. Beautiful - wish I could smell them! Jewel will treasure her pillow when she finally gets it. Hope your snow is all finished now and that springtime is just around the corner for you.
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful collection of laces. I am jealous ;-)
ReplyDeleteAh, Dianne, my lace collection keeps on growing......love it. I wish spring was coming sooner. Yesterday the weather fluctuated from snow to freezing rain, to rain, to snow, and then ice pellets......sheesh! There’s more snow in the forecast, but I’m hoping it’ll miss us........lol
ReplyDeleteHugs
Isabelle, I found most of the laces at the local second-hand shop and some were given to me by friends and in swaps. The really fancy laces, like the flowers and butterflies, I purchased for my stash. I’ve been collecting for quite a while, so it's nice to have a special project where the laces can be used..... ;-D
ReplyDeleteHugs
I do love how feminine those seam treatments look! The gimp with the pearls!!!!!! I will be on the lookout for it!
ReplyDeleteDeb
Oh my Suz - these are all so very gorgeous! I love the little line of pearls you added - what a beautiful stitch combination that is!
ReplyDeletethanks Deb! I found that trim at Fabricland, and lucked out at the time as it was on sale.
ReplyDeleteHugs from Suz
Jillayne, thank you. That stitch combination evolved in stages, but I do like the result.
ReplyDeleteHow are the books coming along? Is your laundry ledger all finished?
Hugs
Suz, I am absolutely loving your CQJP 2013! I need to invite some lacey friends for tea too. Those pieces turned out great and any of them will be perfect on your block(s).
ReplyDeleteThanks Connie--it’s certainly a change from last year, isn’t it?! lol
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed my tea party, and I think it was using different teas that made the colour work. It has a bit of a golden glow to it instead of a grey-brown that sometimes has happened. I like the ’aged’ look it gives. Have fun!
Hugs
Your work is absolutely beautiful. Those scrumptious finishes you put on the crazy quilt is just what I want to learn to do. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bren for visiting and leaving such a nice comment!
