Hey, Happy June!
From across the globe came a surprise package from Robin, in Australia.
Treasures were wrapped in this pretty paper napkin
a piece of guipure lace with some hand embroidery added
fabulous flowers
see these roses? they're perfect for my 'lace and roses' theme for my 2013 CQJP blocks.
Robin sent me these wonderful laces to add to my wrapping cloth and CQJP blocks. The laces belonged to her mother-in-law.
Thank you so much, Robin!
I completed my May block:
I like having the 'silkie' framed by the seam treatments
a few green beads add a bit of bling
and a pale green vine climbs around the fabric trellis
June has begun with a few trims pinned in place
This block has lots of pink
Piece #5 of my wrapping cloth- naked
I tucked some 'wild fabric' strips beneath the open work areas of the hankie to show the delicate threads, then added french knots to secure them
then I added a 'skirt' of buttonhole lace
this broderie anglais is a small piece of a treasure found in the second-hand shop
buttonhole lace on lace edging added to a pocket
more buttonhole lace
and the corner of piece #5 looks like this
I hope to have time for more stitching next week.
Happy stitching!
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

Hi Suz, your lace package is just beautiful! And your blocks are coming along nicely...your wrapping cloth is going to be so beautiful...I really like this block you are working on, so pretty...have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Wendy. Robin sent me some beauties, didn't she? I like those soft pale pinks in this month's block. Now I just have to find more of the pale green thread....

Such lovely lace pieces gifted from Robin to you. They will be wonderful additions to your CQ and Cloth. I adore your stitchings on each of these pieces. June's CQ looks like it will be equally beautiful. Blissful Stitching Suz...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sherry! I love to stitch on these pieces, and hate to put them down once I'm in the rhythm. Somebody likes to have regular meals, though......lol

Glad you liked my bits Suz. Your stitching is lovely, the wrapping cloth will be beautiful when it is finished - it is lovely already. Cheers
ReplyDeleteThey are wonderful, Robin, and will add a special touch to my cloth. Thank you again.

What a fabulous gift! I love watching the way your project is progressing... great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteIt is! I have been blessed with generous friends. Can't wait to put Robin's laces to good use. Have a great tatting day!

A lovely gift! I like the "wild" fabric you added behind the open part of the hankie...adds a lot of texture that would go unnoticed.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Thanks Deb. I love to see the wild fabric peeking through the lace. It really helps to show those delicate threads, too. I think they sometimes get lost on a white background. Happy creating!

Lovely work - as always! I always like how you tuck the bright coloured fabrics behind the white to help show off the stitches.
ReplyDeleteI like to see that wild stuff peeking back at me! lol! I think the delicate laces quite often disappear into the white background, so it's nice to punch them up a bit. I feel that the bright hits of colour make the white sparkle even more, don't you? Have a fun stitchy weekend.

What lovely pieces to have received in the mail and they will all look wonderful I'm sure on your quilt blocks. Your wrapping cloth is coming along beautifully!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, JPP! I just finished adding one of the pretty flower laces Robin sent me to a pocket on the latest wrapping cloth piece. Stitching on the pieces and blocks are my favourite things to do. Hope you're having some stitchy fun!

ReplyDeleteThank you Maggi for leaving such a nice comment!

What a lovely surprise - Isn't that wonderful to open an envelope like in old times without internet.
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for commenting...
It's always nice to get snail mail from a friend, and even more so when there are treasures inside! Thank you.

You are a lucky girl receiving such treasures.
ReplyDeleteThe best part of the may block is the vine twisted around the trellis. The broderie anglaise is very pretty. Is it possible to create it yourself?
I am Marjolein, I am! I really like the vine, too, and it was so fun to stitch. I think you might be able to create your own broderie anglais if you're comfortable doing fine stitching and cutwork. I've not tried it, though.
