Another pretty sunset captured last weekend as I looked out the 'studio' window.
It's been a busy week, but not much progress made on my tree skirt, except for a few more snowflakes tatted, and beaded ones. I'll wait until there's been more added before posting a photo.
I did get back to my wrapping cloth, and piece #10. It's a small piece and almost finished, with just 1 more seam to titivate. Maybe some more bullions........
or maybe more buttonhole lace.......
So what was I doing all week? I was making this:
It's a flimsy for Debra!
My first ever making anything this size ( it's on a queen-sized bed above)
It's bright, and happy, and I love how it looks. Along the way, there was sewing, lots of frogging, air turning blue, and some frustration, but it's finished. I almost ran out of some of the fabrics I'd used. whew.
And in true Suz style, one of the blocks is a little quirky.
Someone might say I was tired and wasn't paying close enough attention. I say it's an artistic statement!
Can anyone tell I like green?
lol!
I'll be getting this out in the mail in the next day or 2. Looking forward to seeing what Debra does with this one.
Thanks for visiting.
Pardon my complete ignorance...but what's a flimsy? Curious mind wants to know. I assume it's a quilt top with no backing or 'innards'??? Love the pretty spot of red in the prairie point btw.
ReplyDeleteThanks MA, and you are absolutely correct about what a flimsy is!

I think it's beautiful! However, mine should be in blue. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane. Really? Blue? I didn't know you liked blue!! (snort!)

What a beautiful sunset…we've had a few pink sunsets here lately too…I think it means spring is coming…Love your happy green quilt top! I too am curious as to what a "flimsy" is :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Starr! MA was right-- a flimsy is a quilt top without guts or a backing. Debra is a whiz at those, and I've only done 1 small one........
DeleteHugs
wow I am impressed you did lots and very nice all of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mad! I had some problems with the flimsy, but I'm happy with it. What have you been tatting lately?
DeleteHugs
the view from your studio is stunning Sue. you have certainly been busy compared to me. I like the buttonhole lace on the wrapping cloth.
ReplyDeleteYour flimsy is great. Those colours are so cheery. I have always been a "blue" person too mainly because I was the twin put in blue but recently have taken to wearing green and discovered I like it.
So maybe I will end up a "green" person too.
Well, Shirley, Kermit sang "It's Not Easy Being Green", but I have to disagree with him! lol It is said that blue is a calming colour, but I find green is for me. So I surround myself with green. Maybe it's because we're both gardeners that we find green so agreeable. Thanks.

beautiful sunset. Good to see the wrapping cloth progressing. Like you love green so this appeals to me so very much, a lovely flimsy, my query is what is frogging?
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you like the flimsy, Margaret. The wrapping cloth sure is a slow cloth..... ;-). A frog says ribbit, ribbit which sounds a lot like rip it rip it, so when one is frogging, they're ripping out work they've just done. There was quite a bit of frogging on this flimsy, let me tell you! lol! Thanks.

Beautiful sunset,
ReplyDeleteI think we got it you like green, Ok so you did a little quirky but, but it's unique to you, no one even someone copying it will not make the same in the same place.
Margaret
That's true, Margaret, it does make the flimsy so original. And a lot of people seem to like a bit of quirky, too. So all is good......
DeleteIs it drying up in England? Has all the rain stopped? Hope you get some sunshine. Thanks.

What a wonderful sunset - I am keeping everything crossed we finally get one of those here soon - it's been so long :) I love the flimsy, have not heard that term before. I love green too!
ReplyDeleteSunsets can be so pretty, and we haven't had good views for sunsets for almost 40 years, so I'm really enjoying the ones we've been having. Hope you get some, too.
DeleteI hadn't heard of a flimsy until I was asked to make one! I've not been a part of the sane quilting world, although, since I joined the Tuesday Stitchers group blog I've been exposed to some wonderful quilters. Thanks Jules.

Love the sunset - and the flimsie. I know a flimsie as a pre-felt sold by Dale Rollerson at The Thread Studio in Perth. They are gorgeous too. Cheers
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard the term before I was asked to make one. But I guess a quilt top and a pre-felt are both flimsy until they've been quilted or felted. It makes sense. I haven't gotten into felt, but I've seen Dale's on her blog. Felting looks wonderful, combining so many fabrics and colours to create unique pieces. It looks so much fun! Thanks Robin. I hope the summer heat has calmed down some.

I want to see a sunset with NO SNOW involved. LOL I guess if Mother Nature is going to torment us with snow we deserve a pretty sunset. Nice photo. Indeed you do like green and I do too, someone will be delighted to have this beauty to wrap up in. Your quirky block, I have heard the Amish include one in all their quilts, it speaks to the fact only God is perfect. I like that!
ReplyDeleteNo snow sounds good to me too, Deb! Know how I can arrange that?.. lol..Hoping spring arrives soon, but right now we're in a cold spell again. I hope there's no more snow, at least until next winter. Thanks.

Beautiful sunset! the button hole lace looks very pretty. The flimsy is bright and cheery, love it ! Lots of frogging, huh? I remember now that a friend of mine once said that my middle is frogging :)
ReplyDeleteAnita, your middle is frogging? How does that happen?
DeleteYes, there was lots of frogging on this piece. I originally had 5 blocks, but then decided it would look better with six, so I frogged some of the strips I'd added to the blocks and made another block. When I went to join the 3 long strips together, my seams wouldn't line up. What happened? Well, I'd made the center too small on the sixth block! And then I had to frog all the rows around it ( I was low on fabric and needed to re-use the frogged pieces to make the second sixth block.) That's my froggy tale. But it's finished! Yay! Thanks.

What's a flimsy?
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
Hi Briony! A flimsy is the term used for a quilt top-- just the pieced fabric without batting or backing. It was a new word for me, too. I'll send the flimsy to Debra and she'll add a border, if she decides it needs one, the batting, backing and quilting, and then it will go to someone in need. I did a small lap quilt once, so I know how difficult it can be to do that part of a quilt. Debra does a wonderful job.

Well my questions have been answered by reading the previous comments. So informative, this blogging world, isn't it? You have worked hard on that flimsy. The colour is so cheerful. I'm sure it will find a good home.
ReplyDeleteThat's so true! I've learned wonderful things and met wonderful people in the blogging world! Debra will take my stitching from flimsy to a quilt, and I hope someone falls in love with it. How are the new puppets coming along?
ReplyDeleteHugs
What's a flimsy??? It's lovely - I like the green, but it does look huge!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your wrapping cloth - I remember those bright pops of colour... I loved them. Have you many more sections to do still?
And I must say, you have a view there, stunning sunset views...
Hi Jillayne. A flimsy (new-to-me-term, too) is the pieced top of a quilt only, without batting or backing. It's the easy part, so right up my alley. It's laid out on a queen-sized bed in the photo, but just reaches past the edge. I think Debra might add a border or two so it will be large enough for a double bed. My strips are cut at 3 1/2 ", so maybe that's why it looks huge......
DeleteI'm on piece # 10 of my wrapping cloth, with several more pieces ready for titivating, and I think I may need to add quite a few more to the queue since I was hoping to make my wrapping cloth 4' x 5'. That may change as I get a little further along, and depending upon how much of the wild fabric I have left.......I bought it several years ago, and haven't been able to find any more, so when it's gone, the wrapping cloth is finished... lol... Thanks for stopping by.
Happy stitching.

I've never heard the term flimsy but can see from other responses what it is! I can see you've been busy and a lovely sunset photo too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorraine. Keeping busy keeps me grounded, and I love new projects! We are enjoying the sunstes: they're the first ones we've had regularly for almost 40 years! So, right now they're very special. Where we lived before this, our view was obstructed by forested tall hills so it's really nice to be able to see them, now.

i go with you on the quirk/artistic statement theme....it's fabulous. And very green!

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!..lol!...Thanks Karen.

I love the green theme of your quilt-- it looks so spring like-- you always create so beautifully--
ReplyDeleteThe view from your window is so lovely-- so peaceful--
Vicki
Thank you so much Vicki for your kind words! I think I have been dreaming of spring for quite a while. It hasn't shown up, yet.........but I'm hoping for soon. I really enjoy those sunsets.

Hello Suz.Your quilt colors look very Springy which I think we would all love to see. Your sunset is beautiful. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteThank you, Judy, yes, I've been thinking of spring for a while, so perhaps that's why the quilt looks a bit like spring.......It's not arriving here, so I guess I had to make some of my own.....lol.....

That sunset is amazing. So lucky to see this from your studio. Good job on the quilt top, very pretty
ReplyDeleteI do love watching the sunsets, Dianne. So far I've caught a few as I'm not usually in my studio during that time of day. Do you get to see pretty sunsets where you live? Thanks.
DeleteHugs
Gorgeous Sunset and how wonderful that you can see it from your studio. #10 is stunning. I can't imagine anything more it needs but then you are the stitchery wizard dear. Wow! Shamrocks and Green...lovely quilt top. You have been quite productive my friend...
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry! Thanks for your lovely words. I've been following your example--you should see what I made with the quilt leftovers! Thank you!
