Here's what I did last week: stitch-a-bit and paint-a-bit-more. What did I stitch?
Well, I began work on the April HEX LABS from StitchMAP, and chose the Umbrella Design to embroider. Here's my progress so far:
I made an error placing my second rose, so I ad-libbed a bit on the placement of the 'daisies' made with the twisted detached chain stitch.
I used some of the wonderful, variegated ( chenille?) thread Monika sent me.
I think my spider's web flowers might be a little small, but there's flower size variation in nature, so I'm leaving them as is.
This different angle shows the flowers a bit better. Now I have leaves to add, and baby's breath to bead, and I'm almost finished......
And what did I paint? I bought a gelli plate (a gel printing plate) and a brayer, and I was having fun trying out textures, colours, and stencils on paper. One of these days, when I sort of have an idea how to get more pleasing results, I may attempt to print these on fabric. That should be fun!
Here's just a few of my experiments with the gelli plate:
no, that's not blurry..........that's the effect of many layers of colour, and this rather reminds me of crocodile skin
swirly fun
Using a lace piece as a resist
maybe it would look better with some ink here and there to enhance the pattern. I think a solid colour would have shown the lace design better, too. So much new fun stuff to learn.
This gerbera daisy is growing in my bow window, and seems to really like that spot! Notice anything as you look out the window? No snow! We had some this morning, but most has melted.
Spring!
Well, that's all I have to show. Where did the week go?
Hope you had lots of creative time this week.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Easter!
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz
I really love your umbrella! A clever design with delicious colours. Good to see your paintings again too. Looks like you had fun!
ReplyDeleteI really like the design too. Wish I could take credit for it, but Shari Jensen created it. I did have a fun week with my painting, though, thanks.

love the tatting of course adorable umbrella! The fabric patterns looks like fun too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mad! The painting was just on paper this time, but I do plan to try fabric in the near future. Happy Happy Easter weekend!

Love the umbrella and your gelli plate experiments!
ReplyDeleteThank you Annet, I certainly had tons of fun playing!

I really love the umbrella! It's already cute; once you add the rest it will be quite lovely. Those gilli plate experiments look like fun! Your daisy certainly makes me think spring may be here!
ReplyDeleteI hope so. I do like the design and how it's coming along. The daisy is hoping for spring as much as I am, and the temperatures are finally creeping up to double digits here! Yay! I love my gelli plate! It's so much fun, and now I look at everything wondering if it'll make a good texture. Thanks.

Delicious,Suz...The purple pink combo is looking great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deepa! I have always liked pink and purple together, and I am pleased how this is turning out. Hope to have finished this by next post.

All beautiful. You have many talents.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jon, for your visit and your lovely comment!

Love the umbrella! And I hope you have lots more fun with your Gelli plate.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the umbrella design more and more as I stitch. Shari did a great job designing it. Oh, yes, I'm already looking forward to more gelli plate fun and examining lots of stuff to see how it will 'print'. I need more days in the week! lol

your umbrella hexie is a real beauty
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret! It's fun to stitch, and I'm hoping to have it finished soon. Happy stitching.

Beautiful Brolly with lovely flowers. What size is this hexie? Your stitches are so precise. Ahh...the Gelli plate papers of fun and mess. Fabric will be wonderful and you shouldn't worry about perfection as I think the joy of this is in the artistic imperfections of the paint transfer. Gorgeous Pink Daisy's and I did notice the lack of snow! Hooray for Spring!! Enjoy it all my dear...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sherry. The hex as drawn allows for a design within approximately 4 1/4" by almost 5" point to point, so it's not a very big space. No snow today either, and it's warmer....we almost got to double digits today! Happy Easter!

The embroidery is very pretty Suz. I have been so tempted to get a Gelli plate. Looks like you had loads of fun with yours and some good outcomes. Look forward to seeing more. Beautiful gerbera.
ReplyDeleteDianne I am so glad you have had a lovely trip. I think you'd have tons of fun with a gelli plate! It's addictive, too.......thanks.

Love the umbrella, stitching, thread choice etc! Show more....
DeleteIt must be spring with gerberas!
Thank you, Lorraine! Spring has arrived, even though the gerberas are indoors, as my tulips are sprouting. Yay! The snow has melted, and on Sunday we expect temperatures of 11C! WooHoo! Once the ground firms up a bit, I'll be able to work out in the gardens. Hoppy Easter to you and yours.

Thanks Karen. I used some new-to-me thread that really made the daisies pop, and the roses are variegated rayon. It has such a nice sheen. I just finished stitching it all last night. I like it!

Happy Easter to you too Suz! Lovely umbrella - very fitting for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteSo true--yesterday it rained all afternoon, so I stayed indoors and finished my " Umbrella & Flowers"! Hope the Easter Bunny brings you a chocolate treat. Thanks.

Lovely umbrella and cute roses. swirly design looks so beautiful! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita! That swirly bit is twisted detached chain with a kinky, shiny thread. Since it was a gift, I'm not sure if it's a (rayon? ) chenille thread, or not, but it certainly adds a whole lot of interest to my flowers, doesn't it? I really like it!

Lovely stitching & printing. There's so much to experiment with. Your 21 cuffs were beautiful, my fave was the 5th from the bottom in the last pohto on that post. I'm sure they'll have done well for the charity.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Emma. Yes, I've been having fun experimenting. Unfortunately, none of the cuffs sold: I think it was the fact they were packaged in plastic bags and put in a box at the back of the table..........but perhaps the crowd that day just weren't into cuffs, who knows? Well, they're now on hold for the next Guild Show, so perhaps they'll generate some interest then.
DeleteHope you're having some nice spring weather.
