June Progress

Hi everyone!        In the gardens, there's lots of  blooming!

This variegated weigela  has flowers that vary in colour. How cool is that?

I don't know what this plant is called. Do you? It's a shrub and the flowers have a light, sweet fragrance. Some of the stems have a bark that is shredding........
 poppies!
 I love poppies.
pale pink outer petals to white, to a center of pale yellow and pink on this peony
I love the colours of these irises

Progress has continued on the Wedding Piece.

little details, of which more will be added

 leaves, and twirly branches

within the V of the lace frame, I added rows of buttonhole lace in a pale, pale, variegated pink floss

a few more flower clusters, some fine details, and beads will be added

Is it getting too busy?

perhaps more branches arching around the top and across the bottom are needed........

on the right side, another casalguidi branch has been added..........yes, it's even larger than the first one......I must be casalguidi crazy!..... or is that crazy for casalguidi?......

a little closer look at the bullions.

I love bullions!

Hmmmm, maybe I should add a few more on the left side of the wedding piece. What do you think?

Well, that's all the stitching for this week.

I have been playing with my Gelli Plate, and having lots of fun.

the photo above shows 2 cards, and the rest are on card stock.

I really like the look of a dark background.
 it's fun scraping patterns

the swirls are made from a tea box. I added foam I cut into different shapes and used it to press into the paint.

Now, what am I going to do with all these prints?

I hope you've had a creative week.

Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

  1. Your flowers are just stunning! Don't you just love walking outside to see what is in bloom next? Your wedding piece is so lovely...love those bullion knots they are one of my favorites to stitch...I absolutely love the first pic, what are those and how do you make them? They almost look as if they are cast on....they are all lovely, but the bottom one is my favorite...maybe you could use them as post cards since they are on card stock you could get four from a sheet...or maybe a card...the possibilities are endless...I think I would frame the last one so I could see it all the time...very nice...

    1. Yes, I walk outside each day to see the flowers, and inspect the gardens, seeing which plants are in flower, and which need my attention. So much work to reclaim the overgrown, weedy gardens, but I've been making progress.
Are you asking about the flower clusters? I tat them and they're called Josephine Knots, about 60 of them in a string and then I join the strings together, or sew them side by side. It's just like making a cast-on stitch circle in embroidery, although they must be done individually. I think you'd get the same effect stitching them closely beside and on top of each other.
I think I shall make some cards with the gelli prints, Wendy. They are such fun to do, but they do tend to pile up............Thanks

  2. Love the flower photos, Suz. This is the time of year to enjoy the flowers. Let me know if you find the name for that shrub. Looked in my garden books with no luck. You already know I love that wedding piece; the gelli plate looks like fun. Could they be used for gift wrapping paper?

    1. Oh yes, Judy, the gelli plate can be used with all sorts of paper, and even fabric! You could print on tissue paper to make your own personal wrapping paper designs, on brown paper, paper bags etc. Some paper might be a bit tricky if it's fragile especially on a dry or ghost print.
As for material, you need to add a fixative to the paint to make it work on fabric so that it won't wash out, but it might be fun to do.
      Thanks.

    1. Thanks FlowerLady. I don't have quite the variety of flowers as you do, but with our shorter growing season, we do enjoy every one. It's sort of fast-and-furious gardening, all too soon finished. Hope you're having some cooler days to enjoy.

    1. Starr, just wait--I have pink peonies just about ready to bloom, too. I wonder if they'll be pink all the way through? They'll be a surprise for both of us. Thanks.

    1. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun playing with your gelli plate, Dorthe. I find it addictive. What surprised me was that the cheap craft paints worked better than the artist acrylics. It makes it more economical, too. I love the look of the gelli on black and dark coloured paper, so I need reams of paper before I play. Thank you.

  8. I don't know what the mystery shrub is, but the flowers look a lot like those of a catalpa tree. The leaves seem too small to be that though. Your wedding piece is looking really wonderful....and oooooh those bullions!!

    1. I love bullions too! I think they look so neat with the casalguidi. But then, they look neat anyway!
I'm checking into the catalpa. The flowers and leaves do look very similar.......so thank you, MA. Have a great day!

  9. Love the soft shades of your weigela Sue. It must look so pretty in the garden. Your josephine knots look so good among the casalguidi work and go with it beautifully.
We did some jelly printing on fabric a couple of years ago it is fascinating. Would like to have a go at it on card now I have seen your wonderful images.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful work.

    1. Shirley, I didn't know you'd done gelli printing before, let alone on fabric. I bet it was a lot of fun, and I can imagine one would get some very original patterns and designs on the material. The weigela does look very pretty. It's in the front garden, under the bow window. I shall trim it again after it flowers and hopefully next year it will have even more blooms.
I'll look forward to seeing your gelli prints on card stock! Thanks

  12. Exquisite !!! If I'm correct, you have used Josephine rings, Josephine chains, Roll tatting, Clunies/Tallies in the lace trellis ? I am awed by your creativity & talent !
Superb photography skills too .... love the flowers !

    1. Thank you so much muskaan! You are correct on everything except the roll tatting--that's bullion knots I embroidered. I also do clunies by embroidery instead of tatting as it works out a lot tidier that way. ;-)
I use Picasa to crop and adjust my photos ( it's free!) so it's really easy to make a photo seem better than what it is...lol.
Thanks for your visit and kind comments: I am now following you by email.
