Autumn has arrived, and the trees are changing colours.
I picked up the paint brushes to add a few more washes to the Autumn Cabin:
darkening the shadows
deepening the water reflections and adding more shore grasses
a little more mud added to the water
more layers are needed
I picked up the Georgian Bay painting and began adding some of the rocks and more glazes to parts of the water
Both paintings have been put away to dry.
There hasn't been a lot of time for stitching. I've been getting the garden beds prepared for winter, and setting up the tools in our shed.
The Embroidery Guild President assigned a summer stitching challenge to all members to choose a t-shirt from their closet to embroider. I had a summer shirt of a heavy cotton eyelet in a lime green. It was looking a little sad with several pulls and a small stain. Here is a photo showing my progress.
The button eye doesn't show up very well, so perhaps a larger one is needed. This centipede will have more legs and feet by the time it's finished.
We also received our pattern for a Christmas Angel member exchange. Ah, buttonhole lace variation..........
I'm trying to decide what to use for the back, and plans are in the works for more angels from this pattern............
That's all for this week.
I'm having computer connection woes, so if I should disappear, you'll know why. :-(
Wishing you a creative week ahead.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

How I wish I could paint. Your work always fills me with joy. Thank you
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely words, Linda! Thank you.
DeleteI'm a firm believer that anyone can learn to paint if they have the desire, and the time to invest in the study, and the money for the art supplies. It's not an inexpensive hobby, and it took me many years to develop the few skills I have( hmmm, maybe I'm not a quick study...lol), but it has been a fun journey. Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

Like your slow painting, here summer is coming, spring here is fleeting, the lovely blossoms come and go so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI envy you with summer just beginning. Ours was a cool summer, so it almost felt as though we jumped from spring straight to fall. Hope the days are sunny, but not too hot.

It's such a joy to watch your paintings evolve. Gives me a broadened appreciation for the work that goes into it. Like your caterpillar btw - definitely a cutie! Hope your computer woes are soon fixed!
ReplyDeleteThanks MA. The service people were here today and things are a bit faster, but not all is as it should be...... :-( The painting is a slow one, but I hope going slow equates with not making mud....lol....

Wow that watercolor is great you should paint that on fabric or copy it onto fabric! Really, and then give me a copy :) some one sent direction to do this if you need it let me know i'll send the link.
ReplyDeleteGee, thanks Mad! And it's not even finished yet. DH says he likes this painting so it may end up on a pillow or something for him.

what great skill you have with the paintbrush, do you sell your work? The centipede looks great on the tee shirt, 100 legs to put on now and the angel is coming along so well
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret! I have sold some of my work in the past, but that's not really a priority for me. I don't self-promote, just paint for my own pleasure and to create cards or presents for family and friends. Funny story, a cousin-in-law came to visit and saw a painting I'd thrown into the trash bin. She asked to have it. Now it's beautifully framed and has a spot in her guest bathroom and she's received so many comments about it! (Art and beauty are in the eye of the beholder!) So then she bought one of my paintings and commissioned me to do another. All that from something I was throwing away! lol
DeleteI don't think my centipede is going to have 100 legs........! lol

Lovely wc of your autumn cabin, gorgeous colours! I love Mr Centipede - what fun!
ReplyDeleteI am having fun with Mr. Centipede. Thanks Jules for your lovely comments.

Just love the paintings, so lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the body of the centipede, yarn?
Autumn is here also, getting a bit nippy in the evenings, but I like it. Spring and Autumn are the months I love best.

You're right Briony-- the centipede's body is knit funky yarn. I saw it just after we got the challenge, and I fell in love with it's texture and colour. The spikiness makes me think of those brown and black caterpillars with their thick fur coats. Glad you like the paintings, thanks. Enjoy those crisp evenings.
DeleteI am enjoying seeing your painting come to life. I did not realize there were so many layers to a watercolor painting. Waiting for all the layers to dry as well...you have a lot of patience...evident in the angel work as well!
ReplyDeletexo,
Deb
Thanks Deb. Not all watercolours take a lot of layers. Sometimes they can be painted in one go. But, since I like to plodge about, I tend to go too quickly and end up with a mess, so many layers and short painting episodes seems to work for me, especially when it's a complicated subject. Waiting for the layers to dry gives me time to step away from the painting and examine it from a different perspective to see what I want to add or take away. i have patience for some things...........well, I'm a work in progress, too... ;-)

Dear Suz,
ReplyDeleteYour painting really makes me UHHH and AHHH ,it is so beautiful, with the new layers of pinkish -brownish tones, ..kind of makes it more allive and gives a beautiful warm glow,- and also the rocks in your other painting looks wonderful.
Lovely idea to add the sweet embroidery to your blouse, and the angel will be so beautiful !!
I hope your computer behaves, dear..
Hugs,Dorthe
Thank you Dorthe! *:) happy I haven't yet decided how to finish the back of the angel, but there may be some organza involved! The computer connection seems to vary from moment to moment. So far it's still working. Fingers crossed.

Your Autumn leaves look gorgeous Suz just as your cabin painting. It feels so alive - you are such a talent with your painting and I know it is not easy creating the effects and reflections you wish to achieve. Love your dear little angel too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments always. Yeah back creating and it feels where I belong at last!
Hugs,
Suzy
Thank you, Suzy. I know how it feels wanting to create and not being able to, so I'm so happy for you that you're able to do what makes your heart sing. I get cranky and unsettled when I can't create. Here's to many more happy days ahead.

Your painting is coming along beautifully! Lovely autumn days.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lorraine. The days are glorious, lately, so I've been out in the gardens getting ready for fall.

Love your colourful centipede!
ReplyDeleteHe's a colourful guy, I think! I'm having fun with him, but I need a bigger eye......
DeleteHugs
I am honestly so impressed with your painting skills, these pieces are amazing....
ReplyDelete*:"> blushing Aww, thank you Karen. I have spent a number of years practicing and I'm still learning. What I find challenging is the flow of watercolours on the different kinds of paper, and learning how to manipulate it. Isn't it fun?!
DeleteHugs
Now your Fall Landscape is really coming to life. I am amazed at how many layers you add to give definition to each detail. Now the ocean painting to watch come to life. Love your clever up-cycle centipede you are adding to your green top. Angels are always beautiful and ethereal. Creative Falling into Autumn Bliss...
ReplyDeleteYes, Sherry, day by day the leaves are changing, the colours becoming more intense, and the leaves falling. All too soon the trees will be bare. I hope to take a walk or two through the park before that happens, and capture the autumn colours by the river. The Georgian Bay painting (Georgian Bay is a large bay of Lake Huron, located entirely within Ontario, Canada) is on hot press watercolour paper, and so far I'm enjoying the different way it reacts to the paint. I usually use cold-pressed w/c paper. More learning and playing = more fun. Thanks.

Both the paintings are beautiful. You have some amazing painting skills Suz.You have reached a wonderful space after practicing for many years :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Anita! Such a lovely thing to write. It's still fun and challenging, so I keep coming back to the paints.
