I finally got back to some painting!
Remember this?
The Challenge:
card 1:- choose your favorite color, and create a painting using different hues and values of the color. Use also the color you like least.
card 2:- paint glass arranged in an interesting way.
This is what the painting looked like before Christmas.
I've added some more reflections
side by side of the inspiration and the painting
darkened here, lightened there
highlighted portions, and greyed others
and realized I could work on this for a very long time refining every reflection, but, I decided:
It's finished!
This painting measures 12" x 16"
and I am pleased with the result. Even though the challenge was not to replicate the glass design, I think the final painting is quite realistic.
The new challenge:
card 1:- do a painting of signs
Card 2:- use tape as a design tool. Create a wet-in-wet underpainting in light tones. Once dry, use the tape to apply random shapes. Then draw and paint your subject.
Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

Beautiful! I love the way the glass reflects all the colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks Diane! I think I could have painted on this piece for weeks and weeks and still not feel as though it was finished.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.

Love this Sue, the reflections are amazing I wish I could paint glass like this. You have made the glass look like crystal. The comination of colours is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI just came from reading a blog where it is -51 degrees Fahrenheit and seeing this warmed me right up!
ReplyDeleteI sure do remember this! I love it! It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFox : )
This is beautiful! I really feel like I am viewing a fine glass bottle stopper sitting on a sunny windowsill and all the colors reflecting and dazzling. Blissful my dear...
ReplyDeleteWow this is brilliant, Suz. I am in awe of your talent.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Fox. I'm so glad you like it.
ReplyDeleteCreateology, what a wonderful thing to say! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping you have lots of sunshine today.

You mean the pic of the lake in fall, right? It's a favourite of mine, and several times I planned to replace it with a more current one, but for some reason I just couldn't. Maybe it's supposed to stay there, at least for now. Thanks Magpie!
ReplyDeleteGee, Di, you write the nicest things! The hardest part of this for me was being patient enough not to muddy it all. I have a tendency to jump in and 'get 'er done', and this is one painting where I had to work painfully slow. I'm getting better about being patient, though. Practice, I guess. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And so interesting to go through the steps with you!
ReplyDeleteSo good to see this painting finished, it's very pretty. My Sunday was partly filled with painting, I finished painting the backgrounds of my altered book.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jenclair. I always find step-by-step much more informative than just seeing the result. I guess I learn better visually. Glad you enjoy seeing the steps.

Annet, I look forward to seeing your book!
ReplyDeletewow Susan...this is fantastic. You are a woman of many talents!!
ReplyDeleteAw, shucks, Karen, thanks. Nothing that 20 years' practice won't help. lol Stubborn, that's me!
ReplyDeleteI'm still learning, though, so it's lots of fun.

Gorgeous! Wonderful drawing, painting, highlighting and colours. You certainly are talented!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanette! I've been painting for quite a few years, and still learning new techniques. Hugs
ReplyDeleteWow Suz! Catching up on your posts and alighted here (no pun intended!) Wonderful painting - gobsmacking actually!

Thanks Libby! I took a night school art class eons ago, and I've been painting off and on ever since. I like to try a lot of different things. Most times my paintings don't turn out this well. Thanks for your comments.

OMG - It is finished, and it’s absolutely gorgeous. You have really captured the look and feel of cut glass. And the colors! Wouldn’t it be fun to interpret this piece in CQ? That is one of the challenges in CQI this year - to interpret a piece of art! I don`t know if they will assign us an artist or if we can pick our own, but if we can pick our own, I would love to use this picture as inspiration. You are sooooo talented!!! Hugs, Cat
ReplyDeleteCathy, thank you! I would be thrilled if you wanted to use this picture for your project!
