TAST, CQJP, & WIP

Hi everyone! Today my computer connection is working (yay!) so I thought I would take advantage and show you what I've been doing.
TAST for week 9 is the Couching stitch. I chose this week to combine TAST with my CQJP.

I've couched down a rope of clear beads, some white rick-rack, and a sparkly green and gold rope

some gathered lace with a beaded center

I added a noel ribbon and some chain stitch

This is a beautiful tat from my friend, Fox. I added a crystal in the center and on the first round, to showcase the wonderful tatting. It looks like a green snowflake

My March CQJP  in progress

You can see I've couched a pretty green ribbon along the seam in the lower right

Isn't that snowman just so cute?

I began a second pebble......

then my hoop broke. Oh no!

Luckily, I had a larger hoop I could use, so I attached the pebble beginning to a larger backing material

I wanted this one to have a larger net, so I began there

The large lid I used created the perfect spot to add layers of colour

My progress so far........lots more lovely encrusting to do!

Last week I discovered these booklets in the second-hand shop, so I grabbed them!
They have several tatting patterns in them that I'm looking forward to trying
the Workbasket is from June 1954
the Edgings is from 1963

Out in the yard, it looks like a winter wonderland since we've had several more days of snow

I think I've had enough white stuff for a while
will someone please turn off the tap?

There's more snow in the forecast..........sigh.

Hope your days are sunny and warm. Will you please send some my way? Thanks.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

  3. Love the new pebble you have started. It has been so nice down here in Texas. We've hit 80 already 2 days last week. The azaleas are in full bloom in my yard...2 weeks early!! Killed my first snake yesterday. We have a goldfish pond near my back porch and he had been diving in and eating the little fella's. I was rather proud of myself that I did it on my own. I had been cleaning out the winter underbrush there just two days earlier. It's a wonder I didn't get bit! YIKES!! hate those buggers/

  5. Suz! I am honoured! The green snowflake looks so pretty, especially with the crystals! It is fun to see my tatting used this way. Thanks.

The snow! Oh goodness, the snow. I thought I was cold today, till I saw this post. Brrrr. What happened to the groundhogs decision?

  6. Love your couching Sue, you have some great variations with the stitches. I think tatting pieces always add something special to CQ.

This pebble is looking good...wow a lid, who would have thought of that..very clever, and a nice surface to add some stitching. I like the lacey surface it looks good and adds a nice texture.

  7. My aunt used to get Workbasket and shared her copies with my mother. How I wish they'd been passed down to me. Pebble progress is looking great!

  10. Fox, I think if that groundhog was in sight, he'd be coyotes' stew! grumble, mumble, !%$#! hog!

Your green snowflake is the focus of this block--it's so beautifully tatted that it makes the block look good! Thank you!

Would you like some snow? lol

  11. Thanks so much, Shirley! Fox tats beautifully, so it was wonderful to be able to add her work to my CQ block.

As for the lid, well, I'd put my other bits aside to use on my next pebble. You know, someplace safe where I'd know where to find them.............yep, couldn't remember where that safe place was!...lol....so I had to use whatever was handy at the time...........another happy accident, I think.

  12. Sometimes I see them and edgings booklets at yard sales or in second-hand shops, and I snap them up whenever possible! I'm sure my Grandmother used to get them, too, as she tatted, but I was too young to value them at the time. If only, huh? Thanks Magpie.

  13. Your couching stitches are lovely. I especially like the simple ric-rac couched. How clever of you to add an additional piece of fabric to fit another hoop. We have finally had snow and it is beautiful. Stay safe and warm...

  16. Beautiful pictures! I find the pebble project fascinating! I've never heard of this before so I went looking around the 'net to learn a bit more. Just WOW! That's all I can say. Make sure you keep updating your progress regularly. I love them. What do you plan to do with them all? Framed wall art?

  20. Hi Stephanie! I'm so glad you like the pebbles--they are a lot of fun to do. With mine, well, we have a new bathroom and the colour looks great with my pebble, so I plan to make a few more, then decide if I want a wall hanging, (shadow box?), a pebble-filled glass apothecary jar, or a grouping on a glass shelf........Then later, maybe some for CQ's, ATC's, fabric postcards, journal covers, on a fabric pillow,on a boho bag, on a tote bag, ............help!
Are you joining in with this stitching madness?
