Early June Gardening and Stitch

Warm, sunny weather means that I've been spending lots of time in the gardens, and little time stitching. There is a bit of progress on the crewel piece.

Over a padding of stem stitch, rows of  bullion knots in alternating  colours took several hours to stitch.

This row is completed, but I still need to add a row of beads, an outside row of padded buttonhole stitch, plus more couching with the metallic thread before this flower is done. Then the two leaves will be stitched.

How it all looks so far:

The rest of the photos are shots of parts of my back gardens.

I hope your week has been sunny.

Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

  1. Your flowers are beautiful, both stitched and real! I'm afraid stitching will be on hold until I manage to organize my sewing room, a task that needs to be completed a little bit at a time so that I don't become overwhelmed!

    1. I understand re-organizing: I seem to have to do it every time something important happens. Maybe I think that it'll help me feel more grounded if all my stuff is in order....... Thanks.

  3. Your gardens are lovely and I can see why that sweet Faerie wants to stay in the shade amidst the pretty flowers. Your stitching is so perfect and must have taken countless hours to achieve such a beautiful flower/s. Summer Sunshine Smiles Dear...

    1. Thanks Judy. Yes, we eagerly await spring and summer after our long winters, and then everything needs doing at once in the gardens.........We've been dry here, too, this spring, so rain has been welcome. Can't have gardens without some rain, right? Watering just doesn't do it.

    1. Thank you, Margaret. The first garden photo shows Bachelor's Buttons. They're a pretty and spiky blue, aren't they? I haven't had any problems with slugs in my hostas, and I've had lots of hostas in lots of gardens over the years. I think the secret is that I mulch around the garden plants, and slugs find it uncomfortable to travel across the dry mulch.

    1. Me too, Mad! I enjoy the hours spent on both pursuits, and the results. Although, I've been told a garden is never finished, at least an embroidered piece can be.....lol!

  8. Your garden looks like paradise! The bullion stitches are great - you are proofing to have much patience with those. And the buttohole stitches will be a challenge, too.
