Surprises and Stitching on Sunday

I found a delightful surprise in the mailbox this week from Shirley in Australia. Look what she sent me:




A lovely card congratulating us on the birth of our first grandchild, a beautiful granndaughter


Did I tell you? DD gave birth to a beautiful, healthy girl mid-October. I'm a Grandmother! DD and family live half-way around the world in Australia.  sigh.

So, I've been making a few cards for Babies:


This one is on its way to England, for a baby boy who will arrive in December

I painted the background, embroidered, stamped, stitched, and tatted










and tucked this tatted heart inside


This one is traveling to Australia to welcome Jewel into our family.










I found this copy of Workbasket in the local second-hand shop.
It 's from April 1954, and has an unusual tatted doily pattern. I'm testing it.












I also came across this booklet which has several tatting patterns I'm looking forward to trying.














The week has been grey and overcast, so I was unable to take pictures for my glass subject for Sunday Inspirations. The sun finally showed itself yesterday.





 It began to softly glow on turtle island












 crept further onto the shore









 then set the bay ablaze!


 what a glorious sight.







 I then snapped a few unusual glass shots. I'll be working on the painting during the coming week.

    Congrats on your first grandchild! I enjoyed watching the cards you made, I've made the same pattern ones! I had a creative day yesterday, I tried something with leaves and paint. Hope to share it soon on my blog. Happy Sunday.

    I think my grandmother used to get them, too, but I was too young to appreciate them. It is so nice to have a baby in the family! Thanks for commenting.

    Sandy, I've already 'spoken' with my granddaughter! Apparently, she even stopped feeding to listen to my voice! I look forward to many special times ahead. Have a good week.

    Your cards look so nice & congratulations on being a grandmother! Enjoyed the pics of your bay. You still have so many leaves! Ours are all gone :( Looking fwd to seeing your next painting project. I'll be crocheting some more stars and working on a mystery sampler.

    Thanks, Jenny! Most of the leaves are gone from the deciduous trees, but the golden glow is of some larch (tamarack) trees and also some shrubs in the bay. There are also cedar trees there in the background. That sunlight really made the bay glow! I'll look forward to seeing more stars!

    Oh, how wonderful, I'm so broody for mine but it'll be a while yet I think, well done. Lovely cards. Love the painting in gesso, too, isn't it fun smooshing colors around!
