Just showing pics of my Chikan Embroidery
with lesson 7 completed. There's 1 more lesson already posted, and I'm still behind. I plan to stitch on this tonight, and maybe even my April CQJP.
This is a view of the front of my Chikan. The variegated 'pink grapefruit' floss creates a nice, subtle, but different look to the pattern.
This is the same Chikan, but with the work sitting in the window and the light showing through from behind. It really shows the shadow work.
I'm thinking of framing the embroidery and hanging it in a north window, allowing the light to show the stitching to advantage, but hopefully, without chancing any fading.
On to lesson #8!
I shall miss not receiving new lessons every week. I have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the beauty of Chikan Embroidery. Thanks to Anita for sharing her skills and knowledge with us!
My company has gone on to her next stop, and I hope to soon catch up on all the postings I've missed.
Happy Stitching!
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz
Wow! Is that pretty! I've never heard of Chikan Embroidery... time to do some research!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I love seeing things of old being a love of someone new again. Your touch is just like how those before done them. Lovely & breath taking! Thankyou my dear friend for sharing this & all your creations with all of us. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteIt's different, isn't it? I really like this technique, and hope Anita will agree to teach us more.
ReplyDeleteHope you're tatting 'Stumpies' aplenty! Thanks Diane

Thanks BSOTF! This was a lot of fun to learn.

Never heard of this before...so very pretty.
ReplyDeleteFox : )
Beautiful work! So fine and delicate!
ReplyDeleteVery very pretty, and you are learning so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteTo help with the fading, why not sandwich your work in a clear glass frame, glass on both sides, but use uv protectant glass? They make Uv glass at art stores, hobby llobby etc for framing paintings. It is a little thicker, and costs slightly more than other glass, but it protects the art. :)
Such a beautiful piece :)
Your chikan embroider is lovely I like the addition of the colour. Your work is always great.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful!!! *picks jaw up from floor*
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze and inspire me!
♥,
Stephanie Grace
It's coming out so well, looking forward to see the finished paisley ...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to see the difference between the two pictures - the back-lighting is really effective. Lovely neat work, Suz!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this either and I'm loving the look of it. Need to check into this further. Where might a person find patterns for this? I have bookmarked the page for the lessons. Thanks for showing this!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fox! I didn't know you were into embroidery before the tatting bug got you. I find it very relaxing, and I'm learning lots of new stiching techniques and styles. Stitching bliss!
ReplyDelete(don't tell anyone, but sometimes I get frustrated with tatting, so this is a calming break. shhh)

Thanks Jenclair, it really looks different that way, I think.

Hi Margie. I learned about the class from Anita, who wrote and ran the SAL on her blog-artisticfingers. She's a member of the Yahoo group StitchMAP, as am I, and she offered to share her skills and knowledge with any members who were interested. I follow her blog, and she does wonderful stitching.
I recently purchased a book of Chikankari patterns (Chapters/Indigo), but it has only the pattern pieces, and no instructions.
Once people saw what we were doing, there were so many requests that Anita began a second class. There may be more classes in future- but I do not know for certain. You could always contact Anita through her blog and inquire.
Hope this helps.

I am at the same point in my work so don't feel as though you are the only one behind! I love the thread you have used it really adds a nice detail.

Dear Suz, they are SO beautiful both,
ReplyDeletesuch a very fantastic work of embroidery, I think you have made so very wonderful two pieces . A delight to watch.
Hugs Dorthe
Beautiful, it shows up well in front of your window!
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb. I've seen other 'Chikans' stitched in coloured thread, and although they look quite pretty, I'm still partial to the soft variegated. Hope you're having fun stitching.
ReplyDeleteHugs
That looks spectacular! Love the colour you chose, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dorthe. I wish I could hang both of them, as I like both effects.

Thank you, Marie! Have you seen Chikan Embroidery before? I think it's a wonderful new-to-me technique.
ReplyDeleteOur trilliums are just popping through the ground and the leaves are unfurling. I should have blooms showing before too long.

Beautiful - I really love the pink addition. Subtle, but shows off the pattern to perfection.
ReplyDeletethis is so pretty and appealing. My eye is getting there... thanks. Have a lovely weekend x

Fantastic work. It would look lovely as a hanging.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dian, but I still have to finish it, first.....*chuckle*
ReplyDeleteMaybe sometime this week.....then I'd like to hang it in a window.
I'm looking forward to your post on stitching on lutrador-- I won some a while ago, and I'm not sure just how I want to use it.
