This week the TAST stitch is Wheatear: a new-to-me stitch.
I began with some practice lines, and then decided to see what different shapes I could make with just this stitch.
Here you have my results:
an 8-point star
maybe the different threads will show the star stitches more clearly
a seam treatment that creates a cross-stitch when the wheatears run closely together in a line
a spaced out wheatear line in green, with another line upside down and between the first row of stitches
My sampler
the motif in the lower right is created with opposite stitches in the pink joined v to v, and two detached green wheatears joined point-to-point in the center of the pink, with inverted green wheatears on each side of the first green ones.
Hope that's understandable.
Sorry my rows and motifs aren't quite straight.....I stitched this as DH drove the truck to and from his brother's home. We had a nice 2-day visit.
Hope you've been having fun stitching today.
Thanks for visiting.

Hi Suz, You really did some interesting variations on the wheatear. The stars are great!
ReplyDeleteSusan,
ReplyDeleteloved different shapes you made with wheatear stitch..very interesting!!
Would never have thought of stars with this stitch & they look great. Didn't get any stitching done this evening unfortunately. The best laid plans..... :(
ReplyDeleteI love reading posts about stitching. Some day I'm going to join the fun!
ReplyDeleteWell done on your new stitch, they look ver good and different colour combinations
ReplyDeleteMargaret
Thanks Judy!

Thank you, Lakshmi.
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the stars before I began joining the wheatears....so it was a fun discovery, JennyPennyPoppy.

We'd love to have you join in with stitching, Diane. Hmmmm, you already have a good start with some fab stitching threads, right? lol I find it wonderfully meditative to sit and stitch....a lot like tatting.

Thank you Margaret! Hope you're having a good day.

I agree this is such a fun stitch. I like your star. I was going to try one of those and forgot. I may have to add your regular/inverted row combo to my tag as a reminder to incorporate it onto a block some day. I love how that turned out! All your samples are so nicely done.
ReplyDeleteHate sewing but LOVE looking at all your creations. This one is really interesting and pretty in those colours.
ReplyDeleteFox : )
Thanks Connie....I like the regular/inverted row combo (I like how you said that, too!) as well. It's a bit different, and I bet playing with changing the stitch sizes could be fun and yield some interesting results.
ReplyDeleteHave a good stitchy day!

I like that colour combo, too, and someone very nice sent me some of the threads I'm using. This was fun. Hope you're having a good tatting time, Fox!

Susan you have a wonderful imagination, you make such good stitch samples.
ReplyDeleteSuch variety! My favorites are the stars, but I love the bottom row of pink and green, up and down.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you Margaret!
ReplyDeleteJenclair, I was surprised at the variety found in this stitch. At first I thought it would be limited to wheat, but once I started playing with it the fun began. And then I was disappointed because I ran out of room on my sampler! lol

ReplyDeleteThanks, Shirley. It really made the trip flash by. Can't wait to see yours!

ReplyDeleteVery nice!!!
ReplyDeleteSuz your Wheatear stitch is lovely. You have shown a lot of variety that can be done with it. Blissful Stitching...
ReplyDeleteThese variations of wheatear are fabulous, Suz. In fact I am going to put them in my embroidery file for future reference. The star shapes are great!! Di.

Hi Suz, I just added my name to your followers. Because of tatting - Marjolein recommended it. I never tatted - but I like so much the look.
ReplyDeleteIs your header photo taken in Vermont or New Hampshire?
It is lovely.
Hi Anneliese! It's nice to meet you and I like your crossed buttonhole sampler--I haven't started mine yet. oh!
ReplyDeleteI've not been tatting as much lately since I'm concentrating on my hand stitching right now, but a little bit shows up now and then.
The header pic on my blog is an autumn shot of my front yard in Ontario, Canada. I live by a small lake, and this is the view out my kitchen , sunroom, and livingroom windows. Can you see Turtle Island? ( it's not a full shot, sorry) Not only is it shaped like a turtle, but the lake turtles lay their eggs in the sand of its rock crevices. I am so lucky to have such a wonderful view.
