No, I don't mean your teeth. I mean your needle!
I popped into the second-hand shop to see if they had any more new-to-me embroidery or tatting books. Just below the book shelf, I spied these:
4 bags filled with embroidery floss!
each bag cost only $4! oh, my!
I grabbed them, and a cute little heart pin for $.50
Once home, I dumped all four bags onto the counter
I sorted them according to brand and #
here's some of the DMC floss
there's also a pink floss winder. I haven't used one before. Do they work?
more DMC floss, plus Anchor, J&P Coats, and a brand I'm not familiar with called National, in the bottom row
Some of the floss is old, and is priced at $.05!, a few at $.08! Imagine how long ago that was!?
But all the floss seems to be in good condition.
The Anchor floss
The lime greens are J&P Coats, and the National brand is on the right.
Does anyone know anything about the National floss?
All in all, there were 264 full skeins in the 4 bags! Wow! There were a few partially used skeins, and a couple of mixed tangles, too. :-o
There were up to 6 skeins of some colours, so I'm wondering if the supplies were purchased for a particular project, or if an embroiderer was restocking favourite and missing colours.
This was a very lucky find, and I know I'll be using the floss for some time to come. I do wonder, though, about the person who donated all the wonderful floss.
I hope you find treasures today.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

What a haul!! Having floss in the house is like having milk and sugar. It's a staple!!
ReplyDeleteYikes Suz what a find.
ReplyDeleteI reckon they are from a shop that has closed down-no one would buy that many of the same colours.
Anyway lucky you.
Yes, a wonderful haul! I'm set for a while, now. Hope you're having a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteHugs
You could be right, Doreen, although I don't know of any shops in the area. I feel very lucky, though.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Loved the header! Funny you!
ReplyDeleteTerrific find for a stitcher. What a stroke of luck! Enjoy the colourful treasures.
Fox : ))
Great find!!!
ReplyDeleteKelly
What a bargain! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Fox. Maybe I've been reading too many punny blog titles, and they rubbed off on me? LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a tat-filled day!
Hugs
Thanks Kelly. It sure made my week!
ReplyDeleteHugs
You are a very lucky gal ;)
ReplyDeleteSo true, JenClair, I have been very lucky finding lots of goodies at the second-hand shop. I'm either filling their shelves with stuff I no longer need, or filling their register with cash!
ReplyDeleteHugs
I am, I know. It doesn't extend to lottery tickets, though.....sigh..........but I am lucky otherwise. Enjoy the day!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Wow! what a find.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sunela. I was grinning ear to ear for days!
ReplyDeleteLucky find, well done!
ReplyDeleteWow...I've managed to pick up some floss similarly, but that is an amazing haul :-). What fun you will have with all of that!

ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure trove. I'm drooling.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome find!! I use a floss winder all the time. It makes winding floss so much faster! If you look on the sidebar of my blog under Tutorials, there's a link to winding. Enjoy your new stash!!
ReplyDeleteScore!!! You are a lucky girl. There used to be kits for cross stitched bedspreads, tablecloths...maybe all those same colors came from one of those quilts. They could be like me and buy the same color again and again...I like it and forget I have it!!!
ReplyDeleteDeb
I found floss like that before and my huge stash of linen fabric that was a whole $20 for all. I've used a winder before, once you get the hang of it it works great. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteDear Suz, what a gorgeous purchase- they looks so beautiful lined up like that,-how many hours of joy you will have with this lovely embroidery flosses.
ReplyDeleteHugs,Dorthe
Wow what a fantastic find!!! Looking forward to seeing you put all these threads to good use in all the TAST challenges :)
ReplyDeleteLucky you, so many pretty colours! I always use a thread winder, it works greatwith all kinds of embroidery thread.
ReplyDeleteLucky girl. In the right place at the right time.
ReplyDeleteThey look so scrumdidlyumptious all sorted into order in your pics.
I used to floss, until my daughters' kittens made a mess of my lovely floss collection. Maybe it's time to start again! ; )
ReplyDeleteWow Lucky you Sue, you have so many choices of colour. Congratulations on a wonderful find.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see you have been told the thread winders work. I was going to say no, I couldn't get the hang of it but haven't tried for a long time.
I will, Julie, thanks. I have lots of embroidering in my future, now. Have a good one.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Don't get it on your keyboard, Sandy. lol
ReplyDeleteI couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all that flossy goodness.
Have a great day.
Hugs
Thanks so much, Meari! I'll check it out. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteHugs
That could be, Deb. I wondered about a kit, but with all that much floss, it would have to be a huge project. or maybe several smaller ones. I am lucky. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thanks LadyHawthorne! Oh, lucky you on the linen find!
ReplyDeleteHugs
You're right, Dorthe, and I shall try to think thankful thoughts during many of those hours. Hope you're having a wonderful Friday.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Jeanette, I've been using perle cotton for my TAST, but maybe it's time to floss it instead.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend.
Thanks Annet! I think I'll be trying it, for sure.
ReplyDeleteHugs
They do, Cy. Too bad they can't stay all neat and tidy and sorted......not enough room! They look good in a baggie, though.........
ReplyDeleteHugs
Oh, that must have been sad to lose your flosses that way. Are there still kittens? Isn't tatting thread better?
ReplyDeleteHugs
There's lots of colour. I'll certainly be stitching in brights!
ReplyDeleteHappy stitching, Shirley. Have you finished your TAST yet?
Hugs
Suz how fortunate that you were the one to find and acquire these fabulous flosses. It was meant to be because you will do them the justice they need. Blissful Stitching...
ReplyDeleteYou struck the mother lode! How come all I ever find (at least when it comes to floss) is snarled up messes that would drive me insane to try to untangle. Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to say, Createology! I'll do my best. Hope your day is a sunny one.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I guess it was just the right timing for me. Maybe next time you'll be lucky, too, Magpie. Hope so.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hugs
Wow what a find, Yes the winder does work and as long as you have the pin it will work, if the pin is missing you could get a piece of cardboard and roll it and then it will go in the hole to hold the thread bobbins.
ReplyDeleteYou could tat with them, I have done tatting with two strands but it needed a lot of care, three strands is ok
Margaret
Thanks for those hints about the floss winder, Margaret. I've tatted with floss before, but I find it a little soft and floppy compared to some tatting threads. I like a crisp tat.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Hugs
oh my!!! you lucky lady....bliss....
ReplyDeleteYes! Floss is bliss, stitching is bliss. I am sooo lucky!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. Have a great weekend.
Hugs
oh dang~!!!~girl~!
ReplyDeleteyou hit the floss jackpot~!!!~
i've never used (or even heard of) a floss winder. you'll have to tell/show us how it works.
:-)
libbyQ
I did, didn't I?! :-D
ReplyDeleteHere's what a friend sent me re the bobbin winders:

It looks easy, but I haven't tried it yet. Have a good weekend!
Hugs
HaHa, you did exactly what I would have done...dump, sort, arrange, count and play. Great find! Last year or two before I was doing all this embroidery I passed up a huge bag of Pearl Cotton threads for $12
ReplyDeleteDid you yell out "BINGO"! OMG! What a fabulous find - congratultions!
ReplyDeleteOh, my! Wish I'd seen those threads! I'm sure someone found a nice treasure.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I was in shock! And then dizzy with glee! I grabbed the bags and asked the clerk to keep them for me...I had to run out and find my hubby to get some cash (they don't take credit cards or debit) hoping all the time no one tried to buy them out from under me.........and I was in luck! Whew!
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a great weekend.
Hugs
No excuses now Suz for not stitching with all those threads.I must admit to not using stranded cotton very often I like to work with a single strand of thread so use all sorts, loved the DMC flower threads but they stopped making them, did stock up with some so now find myself rationing the use of them! silly really as I can`t take them when I depart this world!! Also love Oliver Twist`s threads which I use for the special projects.
ReplyDeleteTrue, Margaret. I can't say I've run out of thread, now, can I? The truth is out.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of Oliver Twists thread, nor have I seen the DMC flower thread, but I do know about saving special thread for special applications, or special beads, or special lace........
Hugs
What wonderful sorting, fab find. I think your French 'knot' is fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks Emma. I was soo lucky with the floss. I shall be flossing regularly, now. lol
ReplyDeleteHope you've had a splendid weekend.
Hugs
This was a great find, Suz. You will be able to do heaps and heaps of embroidery now:0)
ReplyDeleteI shall, Dianne! You can come and play in my stash, too.
ReplyDeleteHave a stitchy week.
Hugs
very lucky indeed - the deal of the day for sure!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of National floss either so can't offer any help on that score.
Have fun stitching up a storm with your treasure trove!
