I started out with a thought in mind and stitched this for TAST:
I used stem stitch to outline all the boxes, and to fill in a few.
Then I added a branch with a few leaves to contrast with the rigid squares. (okay, almost squares -it's all free hand)
the leaves are detached chain stitch, and I also used a line of french knots in the lower right.
Stem stitch is one I tend to use often.
Hope you've been having fun stitching.
Thanks for visiting.

I do like the geometric design Sue, and the contrast colour of the little branch really brings it to life. Stem stitch is very versatile.
ReplyDeleteVery neat design! I can definitely see myself using the stem stitch more myself. Have a lovely Sunday :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley. I like stem stitch, so this was fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you JPP! I've been admiring the ATC's showing up in your mailbox. What fun!

I like what you did with this - the addition of the leaves is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks Magpie! It was fun.

I like your mixture of geometric and natural elements. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI really like this...the trailing effect of the green stitching brings it all together beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Janet. Once the boxes were done, I thought it needed something a little curvy: I hadn't considered the 'man-made' vs nature aspect, but you are right.

Hi Karen. Glad you like it. I was going for a fluid vs rigid.
ReplyDeleteHope you are happily stitching. Love those bits of colour peeking out from the lace!

Someone else did boxes, but I like yours better-more interesting. Thanks for commenting on my blog.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I like your mix of geometric and representational.

Hi Suz. Thank you for the well wishes. Your stitched boxes are quite the exercise in your stem stitch. Creative Stitching Hugs...
ReplyDeleteThanks Sandy! I think it was Raphaela who did boxes, too.

Thank you, Faith. Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun experiment. Hope you're all better soon.

Gosh, Suz, I drew up almost exactly the same design last night for doing french knots in squares!! But, have decided to do another design anyway. Your stem stitch looks very nice in boxes. Cheers Di.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dianne. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the french knots. I have this little thought.........

Suz your embroideries for TAST are all so beautifully made, Karen Ruane's classes are all wonderful, you will learn so many new things if you take one.
ReplyDeleteAnni
Thank you so much, Anni. I do hope to take one of Karen's classes....so far it seems something always happens to prevent it .....so I'll have to wait a little longer......
