Stitching has continued on my wrapping cloth pieces, and, after a class where Karen taught us how to do cutwork, I revisited piece #1 to make a little addition:
titivated with tatting
so piece #1 now looks finished, I think
Piece #2
rows of buttonhole stitch on a base of three threads created 'collars' that rolled back onto themselves, so seed beads were added to the final row
It seemed to create a sleeveless midriff blouse with a beaded lace collar and a beaded skirt! How funny!
a little cross-stitch and applique
more applique
cutwork with tatted titivations
wrapping cloth piece #2 progress
There's more cutwork and applique on the way and lots more stitching planned for the seam treatments, too!
What fun!
CQJP- April Block
My naked block
a lace rose
lace and French knots
add a little bit of seam embellishing, and April looks like this:
The snow is melting, and last night's rain helped speed the process, but now the driveway is wet, soft, and boggy. Every spring, sink holes appear during the thaw, then seem to fill back in once all the wet has drained. It means we're not able to drive on the driveway for a while: good thing I have lots of fun stitching to keep me occupied!
Hope you're having fun, too.
Thanks for visiting.

Hello Suz, Your cutwork from Karen class is very very lovely as is all your beautiful tatting. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteYour wrapping cloth stitching looks fantastic!! White on white always looks so nice. I especially like the cutwork and tatting. Your April block is looking lovely too :)
ReplyDeleteYour cloth is lovely....It is funny how the addition of each bit seems to spark ideas for more and more. Love the bits of applique and the tatting around the eyelet.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Really pretty. I wonder if I could do something like that with the old linens - dresser scarves, etc. - that I have of my mom's?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Judy! i’m learning quite a lot from Karen, and loving every moment.
ReplyDeleteHugs
thanks JPP! I really enjoy doing the cutwork, and it’s fun to add tatting to it, too. I’m very happy with Karen’s class.

Deb, you’re so right about the sparks! Some days they’re really flying around here. ( I have to be careful to stay away from combustibles...lol) Thanks.

I think it would be a great idea to use your Mom’s old linens and create something new from her pieces. At first, I was a little afraid to cut the beautiful cloths and laces, but some had holes and discolourations, and I decided it would be better to use small, gorgeous bits here and there than to leave them in a drawer unseen and unappreciated. Now, I have little nuggets of history sewn into my wrapping cloth, and I believe it makes it more precious. I say, go for it!

a great wrapping cloth, the titivating tatting really caught my eye, wonderful josephine knots. April block looks good too like the lack of colour. creams and whites work so well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret! I really liked adding the Josephine knots to the cutwork and I think there’ll be lots more showing up on my pieces. I do like the creams and whites- didn’t know I’d like it so much. Happy stitching......

Everything looks beautiful, Suz. You're a real wizard with a needle!! Glad you are thawing out - maybe spring flowers are soon to follow....
ReplyDeleteAh, Starr, I think those spring flowers may be a good month away, especially if we keep getting winter storms......so in the meantime, I’m ‘stitching’ my own little gardens on my wrapping cloth.
DeleteHope you have some nice sunshine today.

I was right to think you were doing a class with Karen. The embellished cloth always looks mysterious. What I like most is the cutwork with tatting. It is like you look through a peephole.
ReplyDeleteI think that’s my favourite part, too, Marjolein. I've done some more cutwork, too......whee!

Your wrapping cloth is stunning. I actually had to Google titivations. The new cutwork with the tatted titivations are my favorite. Seems like stitching is an endless possibility with your wrapping cloth and your CQ blocks. Sew very pretty. I hope your Winter sink holes stay very small and seal closed quickly. Sending Spring Sunshine your way dear...
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Sherry! That’s my fave too, so far. I love doing the Josephine knot clusters, as they are so much fun. I hope those sink holes disappear soon. I’m eager to get to the second-hand shop; there are several boxes to donate, and I’m searching for more white cloths....I think I’m addicted.....

Oh my goodness Suz your wrapping cloth looks so amazing. What stunning work you have created! Love the cutwork with your tatted little titivations - they are so different and fluffy looking! Clever girl - I can wait to see more of the cloth. And of course your crazy quilting is so so pretty.
ReplyDeleteHugs and thanks for your lovely comment on my current post.
Hope all is well in your little world!
Suzy

wow! your cloth looks gorgeous Suz. Tatting and cutwork looks fabulous..Lovely lace rose...
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anita. I am having such wonderful fun, and the creative sparks are just flying with Karen’s class. I love it.

Wonderful titivating! Your work just gets more and more interesting.
ReplyDeleteKaren’s class in so inspiring, Naida. See everyone else’s work sparks new ideas, too, which is fabulous. Thank you.

I love your cutwork! It is great, beautiful and romantic. The titvation (never heard this word) is a "real suztat". (Now I looked up the new word and yes it IS a titivation!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Anneliese! Titivation was new to me, too, but I like the sound of it tripping over my mouth. Ah, it’s fun to experiment with embroidery, isn’t it?

Your work is stunning! I have nominated your blog for the Liebster Award. Have fun with it!

The wrapping cloths look exquisite. Gorgeous stitching.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marie! I am certainly having fun with this new journey.

You do beautiful work! Very impressive! I don't know if I'll ever have enough confidence to do such delicate work.
ReplyDelete- Lisa (StitchMAP)
That’s a lovely thing to write! I think we have to find our own voice in our stitching, to make the embroideries uniquely our own. After a long interval, I returned to embroidery about 3 years ago, and found that I really enjoyed it. I’ve found lots of inspiration and encouragement in Karen’s class, and I think that has lead me to taking more chances in my stitching, and doing my own thing. I’m having so much fun!
DeleteDon’t give up. Years ago, I was not into frills, embroidery or lace, and actually avoided them. Now I’m making them for my own pleasure. funny.

Your wrapping cloth is coming along so prettily! I love all the tatting that you are adding to your cloth. I wish I could tat, but hard as I have tried to learn it never seems to mesh.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wendy! Have you tried needle tatting? I did a small tutorial about the way I tat.
DeleteOh dear - I'm sitting here in a fit of the giggles because the pieces that you described as being clothing had already conjured up a bikini for a lady with VERY fluffy hips in my mind. Your wrapping cloth is looking so great - I especially like the tatting around the cutwork.
ReplyDeleteNow I’m giggling, too! Thank you!
DeleteHave you started a new cloth yet? Addictive!
