Suz:

This is the view at the front of my house.

The black-eyed susan vine has gone crazy, almost taking over the planter. I've added branches so it can grow upwards, and it looks as though just a wee bit more will have it tangling with the tree branches above!
Obviously, it likes this spot.

I've been doing some painting exercises in watercolour. Here, I'm using only three colours to create the lily painting.

Although there are certain things I like about this exercise, I am still too heavy-handed with the paint, and want a more spontaneous look.

So I began this painting of roses without a sketch, and again using only three colours. I like how they work together.

I'm enjoying painting this.

 Overall, I like the result, and plan to play some more in this manner, without sketching, and using a limited palette.

Marvelous May

Why is May so marvelous? First, spring has arrived! Second, the Gelli print fabric is almost finished! Third, Wedding Piece #2 is finished!! Yay! and Fourth, I've been gardening and planting vegetables. Fifth, I've been playing with paint, and some ink.
So, May is beginning in a marvelous way.
In the garden this week:

these beauties shot through the eart in the last couple of days to add some happy colour to the garden beds

I love the variety of colour on one plant!

the gelli print fabric is colourful, too

 some areas have an overlap of the pattern, which has made the embroidery a bit confusing..........

 

 I had the need to play with some paint

I put the brush away, and used a credit card for the rest of the painting.

Lots of soft wave action.....


A friend spotted something in the water.......

Look!  A sea turtle!

Wow, how did that happen?!

Magical.

The basement bathroom is finished, and I grabbed a few of the tile pieces left in a bucket. After washing, a thin layer of rubbing alcohol was applied, and then I added some inks.

I love the bubble action.

This is a brown floor tile.

I got in trouble using the tile pieces......they might be needed for the upstairs bathroom, which is now in renovations..........I'll have to wait and see if there are any tiles left over when that bathroom is finished. Then, maybe I can play some more......... ;-)

Wedding Piece #2 is finished, and damp stretched!
Once upon a summer's night, two people declared their love and shared their wedding vows beneath a glowing super moon, surrounded by family and friends, all standing amid a beautiful winery. Pink roses flanked each row of grape vines, their soft scent perfuming the air. The grapes were not yet ripe, but glowed in the moonlight with the promise of a bountiful yield.

September Sings

Mid-September already, and the days are swiftly passing, the warmth of summer fleeting, and the cooler days of autumn upon us even though summer has not officially ended.......Mornings are chilly and the tomato plants turning brown, their fruit dropping onto the ground still not fully ripened. Will the peppers change colour before the frost arrives?
In the gardens this week, the sedum is changing colour.

There are lovely aromas in the kitchen today......

two loaves of chocolate -date bread are cooling on the racks

and beside them sit 3 dozen--um, no, make that 2 1/2 dozen oatmeal-raisin cookis

I completed the September HEX LABS-- the Rangoli Shisha designed by Anita from StitchMAP.

This was fun to do, and I enjoyed playing with colours I don't usually use together.

The sequins used really catch the light.

 I've made a little progress on the painting. Here's how it looked last time.

Sunday Inspiration April 17

I've misplaced the last Sunday Inspiration painting. The art room has been painted but is now a spare bedroom, so my supplies are hidden here and there throughout the house. Why? Well, DH and I decided it was time to move closer to our families, so our home is now up for sale. gulp.
I chose one card, as I decided to use a smaller format and create a painted card.
card: do a painting in acrylics using saturated, bold colours
I marked a border in pencil around the card perimeter, and followed the lines:

with titanium white

I added dots of red oxide and quinacridone gold

globs of irridescent gold deep

 spritzed with water

 smushed and dragged with a palette knife

 two drops of liquid sap green watercolour were added

the bottom painting was created by laying a piece of watercolour-stained rice paper onto the card, then removing


both are now drying.

I wonder what they'll look like then.


Next Sunday is Easter Sunday, so I'll not be posting.
The challenge for Sunday May 1st?
card 1:-do a painting using only geometric shapes
card 2:-coat the paper with irridescent acrylic added to white gesso, keeping this layer thin. Paint with transparent watercolour over the gesso.
