Tuesday Tats June 21/11

I went looking for treasure at the second-hand shop in town. I found this book:
First published in 1973 by Octopus Books Limited, it has 21 patterns for edgings, doilies and runners, as well as a collar and cuff set. Basic tatting instructions are also given.

Do you have this book?
I found this large 7" high spool of navy 'thread'. It's very stiff, 3-ply, and holds a tatted shape well. It feels like a very fine nylon cord. 2750 m on a full spool.

I began a coffee table mat from the above book as a  test tat.

Have you tatted with nylon cord?

Hope you're having a sunny day.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

  1. Yes, yes and I do like the look of the beginnings of a mat! I have seen that book around... do not recall anything from it, but do recognize it.

We had that nylon cord at work - also in large cones and of course I had to tat with it! The one I tried was very stiff but sort of pleasing in its own way!

Love the pic of the lake...

  3. Thanks Fox! The cord I have is comparable to size 50, but I like it's firmness. I think I'll like the mat when it's finished. Was your cord as thin? What did you make with it? Hugs

  4. Thank you Emma! I have been so lucky to win lovely goodies. Looking forward to seeing the little book, and holding it, since I know pictures often cannot capture the real beauty and texture. I hope the postal strike is over soon! Wishing you sunny, creative days. Hugs

  5. I just visited a second-hand store this morning and found some treasures too. One of them is a book with embroidery and macrame from the 70's. It even has clothing made of macrame! I'm looking forward to your tatted table mat.

  7. Hi Annet. Do you do macrame? I did a tiny bit many years ago, but I've never seen macramed clothing! It's going to take quite a while to tat the table mat, but I'll keep plugging away.

Puppet Lady, do you think it will keep me out of trouble? Nah, probably not. It's a pile of thread, though.....

  18. Your blue tatted mat looks like it will be lovely. I purchased my first ever tatting shuttle from a wool shop in Calgary, AB while on a holiday there. Plan to try to take a few stitches today :)

  19. WooHoo! That's great, JennyPennyPoppy! There are lots of tatting blogs and vids to help if you need any. Sorry I can't advise re the shuttle, since I learned only needle tatting. Happy Tatting.
