Mixed Media Week

I completed the "Use Your Words" workshop with Caolyn Dube, and had a swell time using different techniques and mediums, and my words to create the following:
layers of tissue paper, watercolour paper, craft paper, stamps, and acrylics came together
the heart even opens!

the next day, I created a background with acrylic paints to represent waves and foam on the beach
I then added a print out of ladies dancing on a beach (printed on computer paper)
I wanted to integrate the painted background with the paper background and used paint to blend the edges a bit, but I wanted to leave the ethereal impression
I used the words of Eckhart Tolle:
"Life is the dancer and you are the dance."

My favourite project was the last--creating tags using gesso for texture
I began with thin paperboard inserts from my new socks, adding a top hole first, then using liquid gesso

On the top tag, I used tools to create the surface texture

on the bottom two tags, I created squiggles in a random pattern
Once the gesso was dry, I used a plastic lid cut-out for my applicator, and dragged the acrylic paint down the tags

I loved how it would cover some areas, and leave others open, depending on the amount of paint and the pressure I used
two shades of red paint for the base
adding 2 shades of blue
adding a bit of white

 gold and yellow were used
looks like a yummy piece of butterscotch

I love butterscotch!
I added a layer of titanium white and scraped through to the layers beneath
I really like this one

Two shades of blue and 1 green and this baby was done
but, then I decided to add just a bit of white to lighten the center

my three tags!

ooops, where are my words?

here!
after spending the week playing, I thought this was the perfect word to use!

Thanks Carolyn for a very fun week!

I hope you've been having some fun, too. Now that our internet seems to be working, I can surf and see what everyone else has been doing!

Thanks for visiting.

  9. Me too, Stacie! I really enjoyed the workshop, even though it meant I lost my sewing table for a week. It was worth it. Getting pushed out of one’s comfort zone can produce very interesting results--sometimes just a mess, but other times something appealing. Have a great week!

  10. Thank you, Anneliese! I’m so happy if my experiments and play time gave you some inspiration. That’s one of the wonderful benefits of blogland, isn’t it? Seeing so many different techniques and results sparks a lot of new directions and possibilities. Hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend.

  13. I think you are very brave, freely playing with all sorts of painting stuff. I would never think of doing that. The yummy butterscotch one looks best.

  14. I’m just letting my inner child out to play! I never had this variety of art supplies when I was young, so I get to play now, instead. ..lol.. I think playing, when there’s no preconceived ideas or plans gets the creative mojo flowing. Sometimes wonderful things happen! Sometimes you end up with a mess, but, then I know what not to do the next time...maybe. Thanks Marjolein.

  16. Thanks Emma, it was a fun week! I should have play days more often, I think, and muck about with my painting supplies more often, too. Maybe I can talk DH into doing the cooking and cleaning?....haha....fat luck, that.
Hope you’ve been having fun, too.

  17. What fun you have had this week Sue when I see the results I get the urge to get out the paints and do the same but alas I have nowhere here that I can make a mess so will just take pleasure in looking at your wonderful art.
