With so many people creating rusty fabric, I thought I'd give it a try. So I bundled up some rusty bits with pieces of lace and fabric, and set them outside for several days, through rain and heat and sun. When I went to check on my bundle, it looked like this:
Hmmmmm, interesting.
Unwrapping...........
more unwrapping..........
Lace, and fabrics and thread, Oh my!
Washed and ironed and ready......
for a planned sachet, with gold thread, and tattings, and lavender flowers. I have someone special coming to visit soon, and I hope she'll like it! I'll post pics when it's done.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz
Nicely rusted, I must do some more when I went to get some there wasnt much left.
ReplyDeleteSuz, this is great looking, I too love rusted pieces of fabric and lace--your sachet will be wonderfull with this as ground material.

Hi Penny,
ReplyDeleteI think I may do some more now, too, as fall is here, and I probably won't have the option in winter. It is disappearing quickly since I only made enough for the sachet and a wee bit extra. Good idea. Thanks.
Thank you, Dorthe! I wasn't sure at first if I'd like the rust fabric, but I do, and I'm looking forward to seeing this project finished, and to making more rusty bits!
ReplyDeleteGee, I've been thinking about doing rust dyeing for AGES.After seeing your dyeing, I'll have a go. I had read about using iron filings.Must look into that.Looks interesting.rust stains don't need setting.Iron oxide is very permanent-appaerntly?
ReplyDeleteI had fun doing it Judy. I'm sure you will, too! I lost a little of the rust when I washed mine.... forgot to iron it first to set the colour! So don't forget that step. For my rusty bits I used long rusty nails. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!! Just love the aged effect and those fabulous rusty colours. Looking forward to seeing what you create with them.
ReplyDeleteFor some inspiration, I recommend this blog - her 'rusty' creations are wonderful! http://www.jowholohan.blogspot.com/
Have fun!!

Thanks Jo, for your visit, and the link. I checked it out and saw some lovely work. Creating a lavender sachet for my friend, and should be finished very soon. I'll post pics. Hugs
ReplyDeleteThis is a very cool idea - I've not heard of it before - I must lead a sheltered blog-life! I love the idea of it though and think you are so creative to do this!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lot of fun, Jillayne, and I do like to play and try everything! I know if you make rusty fabric, you'll be creating some beautiful items with it!
