Rusty Bits

With so many people creating rusty fabric, I thought I'd give it a try. So I bundled up some rusty bits with pieces of lace and fabric, and set them outside for several days, through rain and heat and sun. When I went to check on my bundle, it looked like this:
Hmmmmm, interesting.

Unwrapping...........

more unwrapping..........

Lace, and fabrics and thread, Oh my!
Washed and ironed and ready......
for a planned sachet, with gold thread, and tattings, and lavender flowers. I have someone special coming to visit soon, and I hope she'll like it! I'll post pics when it's done.
Thanks for visiting.
Hugs from Suz

  3. Hi Penny,
I think I may do some more now, too, as fall is here, and I probably won't have the option in winter. It is disappearing quickly since I only made enough for the sachet and a wee bit extra. Good idea. Thanks.

  4. Thank you, Dorthe! I wasn't sure at first if I'd like the rust fabric, but I do, and I'm looking forward to seeing this project finished, and to making more rusty bits!

  5. Gee, I've been thinking about doing rust dyeing for AGES.After seeing your dyeing, I'll have a go. I had read about using iron filings.Must look into that.Looks interesting.rust stains don't need setting.Iron oxide is very permanent-appaerntly?

  6. I had fun doing it Judy. I'm sure you will, too! I lost a little of the rust when I washed mine.... forgot to iron it first to set the colour! So don't forget that step. For my rusty bits I used long rusty nails. Have fun!

  9. This is a very cool idea - I've not heard of it before - I must lead a sheltered blog-life! I love the idea of it though and think you are so creative to do this!
